What we do

At AES GmbH we develop and produce small sized electronic devices with microcontrollers as core components. Our special focus is on RFID techniques. There are more than 10 years of experience in the development and production of TAG modules and reader devices.

All the equipment we work with acts at lower frequencies in the range of 125/134 kHz. This is a stable and "old styled" technique. Systems working at these frequencies are robust and power efficient. They are insensitive to rugged environments even in less-than-ideal conditions (out of sight, shielded by metal). Such RFID systems are applicable worldwide. Components and devices are easy to design and to produce. As a disadvantage cost reasons come first. Based on higher costs for coils such systems are less competitive in applications with millions of tags and shorter tag life times.

AES GmbH's portfolio consists of RFID read/write devices (base stations) as well as passive RFID transponder modules. There is also available an advanced passive/active RFID transponder.

RFID reader/base station

AES develops and produces a number of LF-RFID read and read/write modules. Most of the devices are based on a common design and focused on low power consumption.

  • 125 kHz low power reader/programmer

The modules can be powered by a standard lithium battery. Depending on usage cycle battery life time typically is several years. Target applications are non connected RFID readers working autonomously in the field. Read/write distances are small. For self controlled applications completion of RFID data exchange can be signalised by optical and acoustical feedback signals.

  • 125 kHz standard reader/programmer

Standard reader are powered externally and use standard LF-RFID-Interface IC.

  • 134 kHz reader/programmer

The module is based on a simple and unique design. It features low power and consumption and extremely low costs.

  • Interfaces

All the RFID modules optionally can be equipped with RS232 or USB interface.

Passive transponder

Passive 125kHz transponder modules consist of the transponder chip and a resonant circuitry. Coils used are of miniaturized ferrite type or air coils of different diameters. ISO-like smart cards can be used too.

Active transponder

The active transponder module is an advanced fully programmable combined passive/active transponder device. First it works as passive transponder inductive powered by the read/write device. Based on a proprietary data exchange protocol very fast authentication cycles can be realised. A fully bidirectional data exchange including to write 4 byte of data into transponders non-volatile memory is as fast as 40 ms - at 125 kHz!

In addition and powered by a coin cell battery the device features a highly sensitive but low power active LF interface. The interface is working at 125 kHz. Device wake-up functionality can be realised based on programmable pattern.

Using a standard RFID reader device wake-up and uni-directional information transfer can be realised for distances of some metres. Fully bidirectional information transfer can be achieved by means of an optional VHF/UHF transmitter.

Passive and active transponder mode can be combined in a multi function mode behaviour.
